So, I was charged with designing the 2012 issue of
IMAGES magazine this year. It was a huge project for me and turned out pretty nice. I'm happy with the results and excited about it's success. That being said, I've been busy in my mind planning a new concept for the cover art and layout for the 2013 issue. I'm infatuated with Letter Press after attending the Wayzgoose Letter Press workshop last November at the
Hamilton Wood Type Museum in
Two Rivers Wisconsin. What an experience! All I can say is . . . Wow! I had no idea what to expect and I had never seen (or paid much attention to) the wood type style before. Since then, I've seen it used in other students work and it looks great when done well. I want to switch themes here on my blog to record my research for a style to apply to next years issue of IMAGES magazine.
Wood Type Revival is a site that is selling fonts in the wood type styles. I like the concept of this image behind the type. The image looks similar to the etching style performed in the late 1800's as well. It would be great to create a vinyl linocut image that could be used on the letter press and achieve a similar look.
The Wood Type Research blog may help me in discovering source material. It appears that they have compiled quite a bit of information on the wood type subject.
